In a world of increasing globalisation and travel, migration and relocation, immigration law affects a growing number of people. Work in this area is challenging for legal practitioners, immigration advisors and members of decision-making tribunals - especially in light of recent and ongoing changes to New Zealand legislation. Immigration and Refugee Law provides assistance and guidance to those working in this area of law, comments on some of the issues faced this field and proposes some solutions.
New to this 3rd edition is a separate chapter on migration advisors looking at competency standards for advisors and forthcoming reform of the Immigration Advisors Licensing Act; expanded discussion of character issues and the Immigration Amendment Act 2015 and new powers given to immigration officers in terms in terms of search, entry and the obtaining of biometric information; plus commentary on recent important cases. These include Helu v Immigration and Protection Tribunal and Minister of Immigration NZSC 28; Taylor v Minister of Internal Affairs NZHC 868; CV v Immigration and Protection Tribunal NZHC 510; DS (Iran) NZIPT 800788; AT (Zimbabwe) NZIPT 800798 ; AI (Entrepreneur Residence Visa) NZIPT 203262; K v Attorney-General NZCA 416 ; Minister of Immigration v Jooste NZHC 2882 and Nacis v Minister of Immigration NZHC 691.
